There’s a little town at the top of Mount Haren Road, full of bright colours, both native and manufactured. Kuranda is a beautiful spot to explore if you like amazing aboriginal art, beautiful birds and butterflies, crazy curios or delightful delicacies. This town has it all from A-Z.

We stopped passed the Barron River Hydro Plant on our way out towards Port Douglas today, just to catch another glimpse at the raw power these falls produce. The wind coming down the valley was almost worth making sky turbines for, powered entirely by the rush of water forcing its way towards us.

Joined the massive queues at the tourist trap known as Cairns Aquarium today. While waiting in line a cheery doorman went along encouraging us to stay, with exuberant thank yous and fishy facts.

I slept in today, not emerging from my bed until after 10, but my brother was even later so I needn’t have worried about keeping the plans of the day at bay. We had a dizzying drive to the Tablelands ahead, and after many nauseating bends we arrived at a volcanic crater turned oasis.

Well, I woke at 7:11am. Sure could’ve done with a 7/11 energy drink to help kick start the day, but I was up. Squatted on the floor for a while, looking about as bleary eyed as little Larissa while I stroked her silky fur.
